Blue LED light therapy delivers wavelengths of natural light (with ZERO UV) to your skin and cells. The light is absorbed into the top layer (the epidermis) of your skin and has been proven to be effective at killing bacteria and helping to achieve a smoother complexion.
On this page, we will outline the main benefits attributed to blue LED light therapy, as well as provide references to the clinical studies that underpin the science behind these benefits.

The benefits of blue LED light therapy (backed by science)
The human skin stashes an oily matter called sebum, to lubricate your skin and hair. An excessive amount of sebum on your skin can clog your pores. The bacteria in these clogged pores accumulates, which leads to infections, redness and swelling of the skin.
The reason for the increased production of sebum has to do with an imbalance in your hormones. This imbalance triggers the creation of acne.
Blue LED light, delivered in the range of 415 nanometres has been shown to be effective at reducing the production of sebum whilst also killing harmful bacteria in the skin. The end results is smoother skin and brighter complexion.
For an introductory explainer into the benefits of blue LED light therapy, we recommend watching the video below by Dr Kassir where he discusses the benefits of blue LED light therapy for the treatment of acne:
Clinical studies and research into the benefits of blue LED light therapy
#1 Effective in the Treatment of Acne
Blue Skin light at 415 nanometres results in a reduction in lesions. Blue light combines antibacterial and anti-inflammatory action and therefore is an effective means of treating acne vulgaris of mild to moderate severity.

Research/clinical study: Morton, C.A. et al. – An open study to determine the efficacy of blue light in the treatment of mild to moderate acne. | Download PDF
#2 Kills Bacteria
Bacteria are sensitive to light, and visible blue light at 415 nm at a high intensity is proven to be the best light available to kill bacteria that live on your skin.

#3 Calms and Soothes the Skin
Blue Skin light has anti-inflammatory effects and also has other positive results to different inflammatory skin conditions. Also by killing the bacteria on your skin, your skin becomes calm and soothe.
Research/clinical study: Shnitkind, E. et al. – Anti-flammatory properties of narrow-band blue light. | Download PDF
#4 Leads to a Smoother Skin
Blue Skin light sessions result in a reduction in lesion size and lesion erythema as well as the improvement of overall skin condition. Your skin becomes calm and fewer pimples appear.
Research/clinical study: Lask, G. et al. – The utilization of nonthermal blue (405-425nm) and near infrared (850-890nm) light in aesthetic dermatology and surgery. | Download PDF
#5 Reduction of Comedones
Research performed by M.H. Gold showed a 40% reduction in popular lesions, a 65 reduction in pustular lesions, and a 62% reduction in comedonal lesions – white and blackheads.

#6 Effective Treatment for Eczema and Psoriasis
Several studies indicate that blue light can be useful in treating skin related issues such as, Eczema and Psoriasis, which are inflammation of the skin. The Blue Skin Light suppresses the cells that cause the inflammation in the skin. Over a period of several session, these cells calm down, and the physical symptoms become much less visible.

The benefits of blue LED light therapy are vast and have been demonstrated time and again through dozens of clinical studies and research papers.
